J Curtis works AMA Pits!

I had the great pleasure of talking to my good friend, J Curtis this past week. I started riding shortly after J did and we've had some great times together.

On this episode, he talks about how he volunteered to work the pits at an AMA race down in Road Atlanta.

Join or Renew AMA and Dump AAA

If you pay to have roadside assistance for any of your vehicles, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is now offering free roadside assistance for all your vehicles as a no-extra-charge part of your membership - and membership is only $39 per year.

Compare that to the American Automobile Association (AAA), where a basic membership is $73 per year and that won’t cover your bike. You can go with a premium membership that will cover your bike and that will cost you $177 per year.

How can AMA do this? You only get this benefit if you sign up with a credit card and agree to automatic renewals. They say they spend nearly $1 million on renewal notices each year and they’re looking to save a lot of money there. Plus, you know they have to be expecting a lot more renewals when it’s automatic. It’s just too easy when you get that notice to put it aside and forget about it, and then they’ve lost a member.

So even if you don’t ride it would make sense to join AMA just for the roadside assistance. Why pay more to AAA and get less?

2009 AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference

The best women's motorcycling event is heading west in 2009 to one of the best riding areas in the United States.

The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce that its Fifth International Women & Motorcycling Conference will take place at the Keystone Resort & Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado, on August 19-22, 2009.

The 2009 event will be the fifth AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference. Previous conferences took place in 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2006. The AMA looks to continue to build upon the success of past conferences with the Keystone event, which will be the first Women & Motorcycling Conference held west of the Mississippi River.

Industry support for the event was strong and included popular demo rides from manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Kymco, Ridley and Yamaha.

Event pricing, reservation applications and lodging information for the 2009 conference will be available soon.
